Replacing the Editor-in-Chief for a Web Area
A web area's editor-in-chief (EIC) has moved on to a new position. What steps should be taken to ensure a smooth transition to a new EIC?
- Notify WebCMS Support and the Office of Web Communications
- Address the "EPA Content Needs Review" Emails that the old EIC Received
- Ensure that Emails Received through the Contact Us Page Still End Up with the Right Recipient
- Verify the Email Recipient on Forms is Correct
Notify WebCMS Support and the Office of Web Communications
Changing the EIC of a web area requires a change to the Web Plan, the EICs email group, and the EIC listing in the WebCMS. Make all three changes by completing the simple Change in EIC Notification Form, which will notify the appropriate people in the Office of Web Communication and WebCMS Support. Your Web Council will also receive a copy of this requested change for their awareness.
Address the "EPA Content Needs Review" Emails that the old EIC Received
If you give the new EIC a webmaster or editor role in the web area, she will begin to receive the "EPA Content Needs Review" emails that the WebCMS sends when the expiration date of a page draws near.
See the schedule for these emails -- who gets these emails, and when they get them.
Note: The old EIC will continue to receive these emails if they were the author of the page -- that is, the last person who edited and saved it.
Ensure that Emails Received through the Contact Us Page Still End Up with the Right Recipient
Don't forget to check to see who gets the emails that come through the Contact Us page. If the old EIC received the emails, then you'll need to update the form on the Contact Us page. How to Create and Modify Forms and Review Results includes instructions.
Verify the Email Recipient on Forms is Correct
Don't forget to update email handlers on forms for people who are parting (employees die, retire, leave the agency, etc) from their role as an email handler on any forms they were listed as a recipient on. How to Create and Modify Forms and Review Results includes instructions.
