Access to EPA Servers and TSSMS Accounts
Legacy Content
EPA builds all public web content in the WebCMS. EPA's legacy public access servers still have content, and this content will be maintained until it is transformed and moved into the WebCMS. The following information should be used only for minor updates/maintenance of existing legacy pages; any significant updates or revisions to existing pages should be done in the context of One EPA Web guidance using the WebCMS.
Access to EPA servers is available within the Agency's network and on a restricted basis to those outside the network. The ability to publish and manage Web pages on the buckeye (www3) servers requires that the EPA data owner first apply for an account by following the steps outlined below under Access to EPA Servers from the EPA Network.
For contractors, other business partners and EPA staff using computers outside of the Agency's network, access to EPA's Intranet and Internet require that the appropriate forms be submitted and approved. Procedures and links to forms for this type of access are provided below under Access to EPA Servers from Outside the Agency.
No FTP access to the WebCMS servers will be granted.
Access to EPA Servers (www3) from the EPA Network
Access to EPA’s buckeye web server is created by adding your user ID to an existing Time Sharing Services Management System (TSSMS) account. TSSMS controls the registration of accounts for access to the computers and other resources in the National Computer Center (NCC). No new TSSMS accounts will be created.
The log on for this system is your standard EPA user id and password. You have to be added to the system before you can log in.
1. To be a data owner (i.e., manage information and data) on the Agency's buckeye or Intranet servers, your user ID must belong to an existing TSSMS account. If that TSSMS account has an Administrator and/or Owner, then the Owner/Admin that can add the user at the Agency's PGM portal (Intranet link). If not, Rebecca Astin can add an Admin or Owner.
2. Once added to the TSSMS account, the user would then need to be added to the buckeye host netgroup. If they are already a member of the buckeye host netgroup for another TSSMS account, then no action. If they are new to the buckeye server, then Rebecca would need to add them to the host netgroup.
3. Once added to the TSSMS account, the user would need to submit a help desk ticket to grant “write” access permissions. All users added to a TSSMS account on buckeye get “read only” access unless explicitly requested read/write. The Unix groups usually requests that the user add a statement saying that the “write access” is approved by you (Admin or content owner) or Rebecca (server owner). The Unix group can also add the TSSMS account to the user’s home directory so they don’t have to search for it when they log in.
4. Finally, you must have FTP and/or Telnet client software on your computer to actually log into the server. For more information on logging on via Telnet or FTP and on the password command, refer to Account Log On.
Access to EPA Servers (www3) from Outside the Agency
Users outside of the Agency's network must use the Remote Access service. For more information and pricing, please contact your Working Capital Fund service manager. If a contractor, please contact your EPA counterpart.
