This readme file lists the system requirements for installing the PC Version of 
HAPEM8 model and provides instructions on how to install and run the model. 
The detailed instruction on how to run the model is provided in the "The HAPEM8 
User's Guide." 

The PC version HAPEM8 model can be run on an IBM-compatible personal computer 
with an PENTIUM II or higher processor, a Window 95 or higher MS-DOS operating system, 
and a 200 MB or higher RAM. The program requires 700 MB disk space for installation and 
a minimum of 1.5 GB disk space to run.  

The installation procedures are as follows:

1. 	Unzip the HAPEM8.zip into a directory on your computer. 

The following files are included in the HAPEM8 directory after installation:

1. Setup-path\:

	HAPEM8			The subdirectory containing the model executables,
				subdirectories of model input files, and a subdirectory
				of model output files (empty)
	SRC			The subdirectory containing the module source code

2. Setup-path\HAPEM8:

	input			The subdirectory of model input files
	output			The subdirectory of model output files (empty)

	p1.txt			The parameter input file, file 1 (set up for an example run)
	p2.txt			The parameter input file, file 2 (set up for an example run)

	durav_HAPEM8.exe	The PC-executable file for the durav module
	indexpop_HAPEM8.exe	The PC-executable file for the indexpop module
	commute_HAPEM8.exe	The PC-executable file for the commute module
	airqual_HAPEM8.exe	The PC-executable file for the airqual module
	hapem_HAPEM8.exe	The PC-executable file for the HAPEM module

4. Setup-path\HAPEM8\input:

	Activity Pattern	The subdirectory for input files of default activity patterns
	Add			The subdirectory for input files of default Add factors	
	AirQual         	The subdirectory for the input file of ambient air quality (example)	
	Commute         	The subdirectory for input file of default commute patterns
	Factor          	The subdirectory for input files of default microenvironmental factors 
				(including the on-road mobile source)
	Others			The subdirectory for input files of default work/at-home population fractions, 
				default commuting times (by car/public transit), and 
				default probabilities and area fractions of major-road proximity
	Population      	The subdirectory for the input file of default population data
	
	FIPS_StateCrosswalk_
	HAPEM8.DAT		The input file for state FIP codes                         

5. Setup-path\HAPEM8\output:

	No contents upon installation.

HAPEM8 is a non-interactive program.  The parameters and input files are specified 
in p1.txt (for the durav, indexpop, and commute modules) and p2.txt (for the airqual 
and HAPEM modules). The HAPEM model is run by executing HAPEM modules in the following order:

	durav_HAPEM8
	indexpop_HAPEM8
	commute_HAPEM8
	airqual_HAPEM8
	hapem_HAPEM8

To execute a module, type the name of the module and the name of a parameter file 
at the DOS prompt or clicking the executable icon in the program folder window.  
The example p1, p2, and airqual files are automatically installed and the program 
is ready to run. The user could test the model by running the HAPEM modules in the order 
as indicated above.
